Choosing a dentist is one of the more important healthcare decisions you make. You are entrusting someone with both your long-term oral health and your experience in the chair — and those things matter in equal measure. At BDS Dental on Finchley Road, Golders Green, we think it is worth being specific about what good dental care actually looks like.
Qualifications give you a starting point. All dentists practising in the UK must be registered with the General Dental Council (GDC), which sets and enforces professional standards. Beyond that, the depth and breadth of a team’s training and experience varies considerably.
Dr. Ian Davis (GDC 74993) and Dr. Ellie Bergin (GDC 76585) bring more than 50 years of combined clinical experience to the practice. Our specialist orthodontist, Dr. Farnaz Motamedi, holds the Fellowship in Dental Surgery in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FDS Orth RCS Eng), trained at the Eastman Dental Institute with a distinction, and has worked as an NHS consultant. Our practitioners maintain their skills through ongoing professional development — continuing education is not optional in our practice; it is expected.
BDS Dental is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and social care in England. Regulation means accountability: the practice is subject to inspection and must meet defined standards of safety, effectiveness, and care.
Qualifications tell you what a dentist knows. They do not tell you how they treat people. In our experience, the thing patients value most — and the thing that keeps them coming back for years, sometimes decades — is feeling that they are genuinely cared for as an individual.
At BDS Dental, we do not rush consultations. We take the time to understand your concerns, explain your options clearly, and make sure you are comfortable before any treatment begins. We individualise our recommendations — what is right for one patient is not necessarily right for another, and we will always tell you honestly what we think is appropriate in your specific case.
This extends to our approach to treatment itself. Where a less invasive option can achieve the right clinical outcome, we will recommend it. We use gentle, careful technique as standard, and local anaesthetic is always available.
Modern dental technology, used by skilled hands, makes treatment more accurate, more comfortable, and more predictable. Our practice uses digital imaging, CAD/CAM technology for same-day ceramic restorations, and a range of contemporary techniques across both restorative and cosmetic dentistry.
We also work with trusted, high-quality dental laboratories — the craftspeople who fabricate crowns, veneers, and other restorations to our specifications. The quality of a laboratory’s work has a direct bearing on the quality of your finished restoration. We do not compromise on this.
BDS Dental has been caring for patients in Golders Green and the surrounding area for over 40 years. Many of our patients have been with us for decades, and a significant number were introduced to us by their parents. That kind of continuity is not achieved by accident — it reflects a consistent standard of care over a very long time.
We are a fully private practice. We do not operate under NHS contract, which means we are not constrained by NHS time or material limitations. Every appointment is allocated the time it needs, and every treatment uses the materials best suited to the clinical situation.
Our practice is on Finchley Road, in the Temple Fortune area of Golders Green, NW11 — on the border of Hampstead and Hampstead Garden Suburb. We are a short walk from Golders Green tube station (Northern Line), and the 82, 102, and 460 bus routes stop close to the practice. There is on-street parking directly outside, and additional parking is available in Templars Avenue around the corner.
We have more than 100 five-star Google reviews from patients across Golders Green, Hampstead, Hampstead Garden Suburb, and North London. We are proud of these, not as a marketing metric, but because they reflect the experience we work hard to provide. We would encourage you to read them.
Yes, we welcome new patients. Whether you are looking for a new practice after moving to the area, returning to dentistry after a gap, or simply looking for a higher standard of care than you have experienced elsewhere, we are happy to welcome you. Yes. We see patients of all ages, including children. Early dental visits help children become comfortable with the practice environment and allow us to monitor development and flag any concerns early. We take a gentle, unhurried approach with younger patients.
