Dr. Farnaz Motamedi is a fully qualified specialist orthodontist with an outstanding academic and clinical background. She qualified as a dentist from the Royal London Hospital in 2014 and went on to complete hospital training posts in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Northwick Park, paediatric dentistry, and oral medicine at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, during which time she obtained her Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons (MFDS) with the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh.
Dr. Motamedi commenced her specialty training in orthodontics in 2017 at the Eastman Dental Hospital — one of the UK’s leading postgraduate dental institutions. She achieved a distinction in her Master’s Degree in Clinical Dentistry from University College London, passed the Membership in Orthodontics (MOrth) with the Royal College of Surgeons England, and was awarded the prestigious Eastman Dental Hospital Clinical Excellence Prize.
Following her specialist training, Dr. Motamedi undertook consultant training at Northwick Park and Royal London Hospitals, gaining experience managing complex orthodontic cases requiring multi-disciplinary care. She successfully passed the Fellowship in Orthodontics (FDS Orth) with the Royal College of Surgeons England — the highest orthodontic qualification in the UK — and continues to work part-time as an orthodontic consultant within the NHS.

Because they are virtually invisible when worn, they are a popular choice for adults and older teenagers who want to straighten their teeth discreetly. Invisalign treatment uses advanced 3D imaging to map out the full course of tooth movement before treatment begins, allowing you to see a virtual representation of your expected outcome.
Traditional fixed braces remain one of the most effective and clinically reliable orthodontic treatments available. They are attached to the front surfaces of the teeth and connected by a wire that is gradually adjusted over the course of treatment. Fixed braces are often the most suitable option for more complex cases, or for patients — particularly children and teenagers — whose teeth and jaws are still developing.
Depending on your case, Dr. Motamedi may recommend other low-visibility or removable appliances. The right option will depend on the nature of your bite, the movement required, and your lifestyle preferences. For teenagers, orthodontic treatment can be one of the most impactful things you can do for their long-term dental health and confidence. Dr. Motamedi’s friendly and patient-centred approach makes her particularly well-suited to working with younger patients.
Your orthodontic journey begins with a specialist consultation with Dr. Motamedi. This appointment lasts approximately 45 minutes and costs £176 for adults; for children, a 30-minute consultation is available at £135. If you proceed with orthodontic treatment, the full consultation fee is deducted from your treatment plan.
During this appointment, Dr. Motamedi will carry out a thorough clinical assessment, take any necessary records, and discuss your goals and concerns. Where appropriate, she will use 3D digital models and virtual treatment simulations so you can see and understand the proposed treatment plan before making any decision.
A personalised treatment plan is produced for every patient, setting out the recommended treatment, the expected duration, and all associated costs. No deposits are required to proceed.
We understand that orthodontic treatment represents a meaningful financial commitment. At BDS Dental, you are welcome to spread the cost over the course of your treatment. We ask for 35% of the total treatment fee as your initial payment, with the remaining balance payable in monthly instalments of approximately £250. Please get in touch for full details.

Treatment duration varies considerably depending on the complexity of the case and the type of treatment used. Most patients experience some pressure or mild discomfort in the days following each adjustment or aligner change. This is a normal part of the process and indicates that the teeth are moving. Over-the-counter pain relief is usually sufficient if needed. Any significant or prolonged pain should be reported to the practice so that it can be assessed.
Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners changed at regular intervals to move the teeth gradually. Fixed braces are bonded to the teeth and use a wire system adjusted throughout treatment. Both can achieve excellent results. Invisalign is generally preferred by adults and older teenagers who want a discreet option, while fixed braces may be more appropriate for complex cases or younger patients. In most cases, a first orthodontic assessment is worth considering around the age of seven, when enough adult teeth have come through to identify any developing alignment issues. This does not necessarily mean treatment will begin at that point — many children are simply monitored until the right stage of development — but early assessment ensures any concerns are identified in good time. Dr. Motamedi sees patients of all ages and will give you an honest view on what, if anything, needs to be done and when.
Yes, and increasing numbers of adults choose to do so. There is no upper age limit for orthodontic treatment, provided the teeth and gums are in good health. Many adult patients choose clear aligner options such as Invisalign because they can be worn without drawing attention. Dr. Motamedi treats a significant number of adult patients and understands the particular concerns and goals that adults bring to their orthodontic consultations.
Yes. Retainers are an essential part of orthodontic treatment and are used to hold the teeth in their new positions after the active phase of treatment is complete. Without retention, teeth have a natural tendency to drift back towards their original positions. Dr. Motamedi will advise on the type of retainer most appropriate for your case and explain how and when to wear it.
